IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE
You could sustain a WHIPLASH INJURY

Any substantial blow to your body, whether from a car accident, contact sports, or an accident at work, can cause whiplash or other neck injuries and warrants a thorough chiropractic check-up.

Whiplash injuries can be so slight that at first you don't even know you are injured. Even if you feel normal after an accident, with no symptoms, you should be thoroughly examined. Symptoms can be delayed for days, and in some cases, symptoms may not surface for years.1 Worse, whiplash injuries can still be causing symptoms after five years, and in the long run, can cause secondary problems such as osteoarthritis.2 This delay in symptoms and the long term consequences make it very important to get examined after an accident.

Basic Whiplash Symptoms
  • Neck Pain
  • Headache
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Low Back Pain
  • Difficulty Swallowing
  • Blurred Vision
  • Ringing in the Ears
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue or Weakness
  • Irritability
  • Dizziness
  • Vertigo (sense of rotation)

What should I do if I am involved in an automobile accident?
There are a few basic guidelines that you should follow at the time of the accident.

  1. Do not leave the scene of the accident until a police officer arrives.
  2. Get all information from the driver of the other car.
  3. Ask the officer where and when you can pick up a copy of the accident report.
  4. Seek immediate medical attention for any acute injuries.
  5. Call our office at 488-2663 and schedule an appointment.

What if I am not feeling any pain after the accident?
Sometimes symptoms aren't felt until days, weeks or months after the accident. When they do appear they may start as sore and tight neck and lower back muscles. Symptoms often get worse over time with a greater chance of reinjury.
(Insurance coverage for injuries sustained in a Motor Vehicle Accient is time sensative. If too much time has passed before you seek care be sure to let us know if you have had any other possibilities of intervening unrelated events that might be contributing to your problems.)

What is Whiplash?
When a sudden accident or injury hurls your head backward and forward, your neck gets thrown out of balance. The force can damage parts of your neck and reverse its natural curve. This may even cause pain in your shoulders, arms, hands and low back.

Can chiropractic care help me?
Dr. Sylvester is a whiplash expert. He has been trained to treat the underlying cause of your problem. (Traditional medicine treats the symptom not the cause.) He will look at your overall health - not only on your neck, but also on your lifestyle. This integrated approach helps determine the best treatment for your whiplash.
